The College of the Mayor and Aldermen

The College of the Mayor and Aldermen is composed of the mayor and three aldermen, who together represent the executive authority of the municipality.

The meetings of the College of the Mayor and Aldermen are chaired by the mayor and are held behind closed doors, in the presence of the municipal secretary.

In addition to the responsibilities assigned to it by other legal provisions, the College oversees the day‑to‑day management of the municipality.

The Mayor

The mayor presides over the municipal council as well as the College of the Mayor and Aldermen.

He signs regulations and orders, publications, official acts and municipal correspondence, may legalise signatures, and performs the duties of civil registrar.

Likewise, he is the only person authorised to take enforcement measures in matters of municipal policing. In this capacity, he issues building permits, for example, and orders construction sites to be closed when works do not comply with the authorised permit.

The mayor chairs the Municipal Council as well as the College of the Mayor and Aldermen.

He signs the regulations and orders, publications, official acts and the municipality’s correspondence, may legalise signatures, and performs the duties of civil registrar.

He is also the only person authorised to take enforcement measures in matters of municipal policing. In this capacity, he issues building permits, for example, and orders construction sites to be closed when works do not comply with the authorised permit. He is responsible for public tranquillity, safety, and health.

Responsibilities of the Mayor

In addition to his responsibilities as mayor, he oversees the following areas:

Municipal roads
Local security
Sports, leisure, and youth

He is also the point of contact for the Department of New Works and Infrastructure, the Municipal Workshop, the Citizens and Communication Service, and the Climate Team.
